Goals*

The Louisiana Healthy Communities Coalition seeks to reflect the diversity of our state in the work we do.  This means that each of the coalitions may be working on different goal areas.  However, several health-related goals are common and should be addressed statewide. These include:

Objective 1: Decrease adult smoking prevalence from 25.7% in 2011 to 20.2% by 2018.

Strategy 1.1: Increase unit price of tobacco products by $1.00

Strategy 1.2: Strengthen the Louisiana Smoke-Free Air Act (ACT 815) to include bars and gaming facilities

Strategy 1.3: Establish 100% tobacco-free colleges and universities Objective 2: Decrease youth tobacco prevalence from 28.4% in 2011 to 23.4% by 2018.

Strategy 2.1: Adopt tobacco point-of-sale strategies

Objective 3: Decrease adult obesity prevalence from 33.4% in 2011 to 30.4% by 2018.

Strategy 3.1: Create a health-promoting environment (e.g. Community gardens, sale of locally gown food)

Strategy3.2: Encourage breast feeding

Strategy 3.3: Encourage healthy worksites

Strategy 3.4: Decrease calorie-sweetened beverage consumption and increase water consumption

Strategy 3.5: Increase access to healthy food choices
 

Objective 4: Decrease youth obesity prevalence from 27.1% in 2011 to 24.1% by 2018.

Strategy 4.1: Add increased physical activity time to the school day (e.g. Classroom, physical education, recess)

Strategy 4.2: Adopt healthy vending machine policies in schools (food and drink)

Strategy 4.3: Discourage calorie-sweetened beverage consumption

Strategy 4.4: Assist and support youth and obesity prevention programs

Strategy 4.5: Increase access to healthy food

Strategy 4.6: Decrease screen viewing time

Objective 1: Develop and support diverse partnerships to facilitate healthy living among disparate populations.

Strategy 1.1: Recruit coalition members from multi-sectorial organizations (e.g. public, private, non-profit, faith-based)

Strategy 1.2: Leverage earned and paid media to promote healthy lifestyles

Strategy 1.3: Educate the community about factors and determinants that influence health

Strategy 1.4: Conduct THRIVE trainings to assist coalition members with HCC implementation
 

Objective 2: Build communities’ capacity for identifying and utilizing new and current health resources to better inform the public of their existence

Strategy 2.1: Identify community screening and early detection resources and ensure appropriate organizations are knowledgeable of these

Strategy 2.2: Promote utilization of identified resources (e.g. screenings, quitline)

Strategy 2.3: Educate communities about prevention, early detection, and treatment coverage through the Affordable Care Act as they are implemented

Strategy 2.4: Educate communities on securing additional funds for screenings
