The Bayou Parishes LHCC wants to re-engage with its community members to strengthen its coalition and build upon past efforts to fight tobacco and obesity in the area. Join us to help determine health priorities for our area, continue our work fighting tobacco and promote well-being for all of us.

Regional Priorities/Goals:

  1. Increase LHCC membership and strengthen leadership.
  2. Set coalition goals and associated activities, while continuing to participate in health-related activities.
  3. Continue tobacco prevention and cessation efforts.

“Bump and Baby Day” in Terrebone Parish

Coalition Activities:

  • Host the tobacco-and alcohol-free 2018 Mardi Gras Zone; recruit volunteers and follow-up with Terrebone Parish Council.
  • Participate in the Nurse Family Partnership/Access Health "Bump and Baby Day," which provides health and social service resources to pregnant women and mothers in Terrebone Parish.
  • Distribute Krewe du Quit cessation kits across the region in partnership with the Office of Public Health, the Nurse Family Partnership and the Louisiana Campaign for Tobacco-Free Living.

Children Mental Health Awareness Family Fun Day in Lafourche Parish

Past Work/Successes:

  • Participated in a number of activities to help keep youth from smoking, including: participating in the Youth Tobacco Roundtable in Terrebone Parish; staging a "Kick Butts Day" in Terrebone Parish schools; working on a tobacco point-of-sale initiative the surveyed local convenience stores for tobacco product and educated store owners and staff on the dangers of tobacco advertising on youth.
  • Worked on initiatives to promote tobacco cessation awareness and services, including developing a Bayou Parishes/Region Cessation Taskforce; providing cessation materials and support to local organizations; facilitated a smoke-free housing effort by providing cessation awareness, education and services to local housing authority residents.
  • Increased number of Bayou Parishes Wellspots and generated new Well Ahead partners.
  • Identified mental health services available to Terrebone Parish residents.
  • Participated in Children Mental Health Awareness Family Fun Day in Lafourche Parish
